Drop in on artists as they put on a show
Have you ever visited Millie Beatie’s studio? If you take the Loomis Art Loop Mother’s Day Weekend Studio Tour, you can watch her throw her one-of-a-kind porcelain and stoneware pieces and she’ll show you how she fires them in her kiln. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, May 9 and 10, Beatie and 11 others will open the doors to their studios and work places so that you can watch, enjoy, and purchase their art if you wish. Beatie has been participating in the Loomis Art Loop for seven years. New to the tour is Cindy Bonita, who will show her relief prints at Beatie’s studio, located at 6410 Arcadia Avenue, off of King Road. If you like bold paintings of big, beautiful flowers, be sure to visit the studio of Sandy Delehanty at 8041 Boulder Creek Road in Penryn, located near Penryn Road and Interstate 80. Sandy’s watercolors, acrylics, and oils fill her home and studio with a big splash. Delehanty is sharing her space with Julie Hirota, who will show textile murals. For paintings of fruits and vegetables almost good enough to eat, visit Paula Amerine as she works on her acrylic, oil pastel and watercolor paintings. She’ll be sharing the studio of jeweler Doug Horton at the Horton Farm and Iris Garden at 7440 King Road, at the corner of Val Verde. Horton’s pieces are informed by his travels to Alaska and China. The third artists showing at the Horton Farm is landscape sculptor Deanna Marsh. The other Loomis Art Loop artists are equally talented. They include Susan Goodmundson, showing her pastels at the studio of watercolorist Brenda Dominguez, 3578 Silver Ranch Road, near Day Avenue and King Road. Award-winning artist Victoria Brooks shows her oils and watercolors at her studio, located at 4717 Vista Cove, in Placer Canyon off of Auburn-Folsom Road. She’ll be joined by clay sculptor Thien Dao. Rounding out the dozen is Larry Brenden, showing his fine art photography at 10500 Rim View Circle, off of Shirland Tract Road in Auburn. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit at least one of these studios, even if just to thank the artists for all their hard work and willingness to share their art in such an intimate setting.
