A & J Repairs gets new owners
The new owners of A & J Repairs plan to uphold the business’ traditions while adding some new services. Richard and Betty Lamb, of Rocklin, recently purchased the lawn mower sales and repair business that has been a Loomis standard since 1978. Their son Jerry Young, of Loomis, will run the repair end of the business, while Betty handles the accounting and Richard lends his customer service experience. “We’re not changing it. We’re trying to keep it locally owned and family run,” Lamb said. Lamb said they will continue to offer great service and competitive prices. “Price-wise, we’re competitive with the box stores, but we beat them on service. When people buy a mower or trimmer here we assemble it, test it and teach them how to operate it,” he said. Lamb said they’ll continue to work with Del Oro students in the small engine classes by donating motors and helping them get parts. One change the Lambs will make is to add a pick-up and delivery service to Newcastle, Penryn, Granite Bay, Lincoln and Rocklin. He said the charge would be $65 to $85, depending on the distance. They are also offering electrical and air tool repair on items such as drills, nail guns, jackhammers, generators, pressure washers, skill saws and staple guns. Caroline and Frank Reyes, of Loomis, are long-time customers of A & J. “We’re very happy with the service we’ve received. We purchased our mower through them and have the service done there. They have a good reputation, fair prices and good service,” Caroline said. She said they plan to continue using the shop under the new owners and said her experience with them has been seamless. Carlo Yandolino owns Monte Vista Stable in Newcastle and has used A & J for 15 years for service and repair of his ranch equipment. He recently worked with the new owners and said, “They did a pretty good job, prices were pretty good, the same as before.” The new owners said the shop specializes in the repair of riding mowers, weed eaters, blowers, chain saws, push mowers, string trimmers and rototillers. They also sell medium to high quality Echo products and carry a variety of parts. Lamb said parts for most repairs are in stock. “We always try to encourage the repair. It’s usually more cost-effective, and we don’t just try to sell customers a new item,” he said. Young has worked in small engine repair for 15 years and will be assisted by long-time employee John Landau, who has worked at A & J for 14 years, and David Norris, who has worked there for two years. The Lambs purchased the business from Andrew Palatinus, who is retiring and moving to Michigan. Lamb said they’ve received a warm welcome from the community. “Everyone has been real friendly. They’re glad some one has taken it over and glad to hear it’s staying open,” he said. We miss Andy! I have had a terrible experience with the new owner- Jerry. I will not only not return as long as it is under this ownership, but I will tell all my neighbors about my experience. It is unfortunate that Jerry will ultimately run a long standing local Loomis business into the ground with his lack of customer service and know-how to run a business....especially a local community business. It is all bout word of mouth and customer service. The business will not prevail if he continues to insult customers and not "do the right thing" to take care of paid repairs gone wrong. I think the estimate is that it takes 10 good stories to get rid of a bad one -- and I know of two bad ones already. If oyu read this and still do business with these new owners, you do so at your own risk!
i also fell the same way i own a landscape co. and i get the run around from the new owners so i now take my stuff to sierra saw in auburn the people are nicer and the price is right and they get the problem fixed the first try
