Fight off the summertime blues

That’s a favorite lament heard during the lazy days of summer. These local activities will keep kids and grownups happy and active all summer long.

Swim lessons at Del Oro Pool

Children learn to swim or learn strokes at these 30-minute lessons. Two-week sessions run Mon.-Thurs. Starts June 29, July 13 and July 27. Cost $55 residents, $60 nonresidents. Sign-ups at 6 p.m. on July 2 and 16 or at the pool 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Mon-Fri. Sponsored by the Town of Loomis.

Free community swim at Del Oro Pool

Lifeguard supervised. Mon.-Thurs. 1:30-3 p.m., Fridays 11:30- 3 p.m through Aug. 7. Sponsored by the Town of Loomis.

Playgrounds and fields of green

Run, jump and play at Loomis Park North, Loomis Park South, Sunrise Loomis Park and at the grammar school playgrounds.

Tennis anyone?

Del Oro High School tennis courts are available for public use daily during the summer, except during tennis camps. Coin operated lights available for evening play.

Frisbee golf

Courses at Penryn Elementary and H. Clarke Powers schools.

Free concerts

Take a hike

Bring water and wear comfortable shoes for free hikes in Traylor Ranch Reserve, 1910 English Colony Way or Griffith Quarry Park, corner of Taylor and Rock Springs roads, both in Penryn.

Play bluegrass

Bring musical instruments and join in a Bluegrass jam session. The Station Pickers meet from 6-9 p.m., on the first and third Wednesdays of the month, inside Loomis Depot. Free.
