Cash register helps police ring up arrests
Three charged with burglarizing multiple Placer businesses
When thieves smashed the window of a Loomis shop, owner Dan Henderson said it could’ve put him out of business. So when a detective called Henderson, who owns Tactis Sk8 Shop, Monday to tell him the alleged smash-and-grab vandals were in custody, Henderson said he was “absolutely ecstatic.” Early Monday morning, three men suspected of burglarizing businesses stretching from Colfax to Rocklin were in custody. Rocklin police arrested Rocklin resident Jordan Wolfe, 18, along with Roseville resident Drew Schroers, 19, and 19-year-old North Highlands resident Dominque Carter on burglary charges Monday after the vehicle they were in was stopped for a minor traffic violation, according to Rocklin Police Sgt. Trent Jewell. When officers approached the vehicle, they noticed a cash register, with its receipt roll still intact, on the rear passenger seat, Jewell said. The receipt paper had the name and address of a local Rocklin business, which had recently been burglarized. Jewell said officers took samples of blood found at the business, on the cash register and from the driver, who had a small laceration on his hand, as evidence. Jewell said the vehicle and suspect descriptions match with several other recent Placer County burglaries. Jim Hudson, Placer County Sheriff’s detective, said Monday that investigators have recovered stolen merchandise from several county businesses including a handful in Auburn, six in Colfax, a few in Meadow Vista and a couple from Loomis. The victims include Chevron Food Mart in Meadow Vista, Quality Market in Colfax, The Weimar Country Store, Stone Creek in Loomis, Star Liquor in Loomis and Tactis Sk8 Shop in Loomis, Hudson said. Hudson said the suspects primarily stole cigarettes and alcohol, which they resold at half the price. The three men also took skateboards from Tactis Sk8 Shop. As of Monday, investigators were able to find four of about 13 skateboards stolen from the business. Earlier this fall, the suspected burglars threw a car battery through one of the Sk8 Shop’s windows and took skateboards and a computer. Henderson said he paid about $500 out-of-pocket that day to repair the damage. He said his business has struggled to continue with the lost merchandise and lost revenue. “When small communities like ours are struggling, the last thing we need is a bunch of hooligans running around ripping us off,” Henderson said. Hudson estimates that the series of burglaries resulted in close to $20,000 in stolen merchandise and an additional $10,000 in damages. Hudson credited a strong partnership among the Rocklin Police, Placer Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies for working together on the investigation and arresting the suspected criminals. “We as a Placer County Sheriff’s Department and other agencies work together to solve these crimes and Rocklin Police did a great job this morning,” Hudson said. “That type of partnership works well in this county.” Hudson added that hopefully the arrests will bring some peace of mind to business owners. “Store owners can be a little more relaxed,” Hudson said. “At least they know now that suspects have been caught and we are aggressively investigating the case.” All three men were booked into Placer County Jail Monday morning on charges of burglary, possession of stolen property and conspiracy to a commit a crime. All three were in custody as of Monday afternoon. Wolfe is being held on $35,000 bail while Schroers and Carter are in custody on $10,000 bail each. I bet their Moms think they are good kids but were hanging around with the wrong crowd. OOPS, they are the wrong crowd.
Dear Loomis News, I do not think it is fair for you to have this persons picture alone on this page. I do not think it is appropriate to suggest or imply a racial component to this crime. To be fair, all three pictures should be shown or do not show any.
