Wild turkeys forage in a field along King Road.

Wild turkeys, common to the Loomis Basin, shouldn’t meet the fate of their hatchery cousins that will end up as the main attraction of Thanksgiving Day feasts today.

According to nationalgeographic.com, the turkey was a favored food of Native Americans and Benjamin Franklin's choice for the United States' national bird, losing out to the bald eagle.
