READER INPUT
In response to Reader Input in the Loomis News of Jan. 7: First, to Jenny Hale, who very correctly pointed out that President Obama has backslided on his passionate campaign promises of troop withdrawal from Afghanistan: This is just one of many “soap box” vote-getters that have proven pretentious at best. There’s the lack of “transparency” regarding the health care overhaul and the TARP/stimulus money. The appointment of a treasury secretary who hadn’t paid his own taxes long ago, along with the appointment of several “questionable” people to important government positions who don’t have to answer to the people of the U.S.A., are just a few more unanswered questions. To Tom Fugate: I would like to add to his point that the only way to get Congress’ or any other elected official’s attention is to have as many U.S. citizens registered as possible. It doesn’t matter whether it’s left, right, Democrat, Independent or Republican, we must all keep ourselves well informed and ready to vote. It’s not really Congress’ responsibility, it’s ours. We are the people and we run this great country. Remember, when the people fear the government there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty. N. Totten Mack, Loomis
